Camping Season

Mother Nature brings families together.

We’ve made a lot of lasting memories with our children over the years, but the family camping trips are in a category of their own.

There was the weekend an enormous pine tree blew down on the neighboring picnic table which was also the weekend we had a black bear in camp.
There was the weekend with a mouse in the camper which made our daughter forever terrified of the little rodents, understandably so, since he ran across her pillow!
There was the weekend we rafted the slow part of a river and got eaten alive by mosquitos.
There were the weekend archery shoots when our extended family came to walk the course, camp, and explore the backwoods with us.
There were many amazing weekends, all etched in our hearts and minds.

I’m sure I’m not the only Montanan that was slightly distressed when I started watching the series Yellowstone. No offense to the writers and producers but talk about a creative depiction of what it’s like to live in Big Sky Country.

Turn your trash into someone else’s treasure.

This is the time of year when we not only make the rounds at local garage sales, we also typically have one of our own. I hear a lot of people saying that it’s just too much work to put on a sale but after organizing dozens, I can honestly say it just isn’t that hard. It helps with clutter, reduces waste, brings in a few extra dollars, and is a fun opportunity to interact with humans.

Our family spent many years road-tripping to games and tournaments throughout the Rocky Mountain region. It Ain’t Over Until It’s Over

While it’s unlikely I’ll be able to write a football missive as entertaining as last season, I just can’t pass on the opportunity to comment about the recent NFL playoff results. Wait, what? All four divisional round games tied in the final seconds with three out of four victories by field goals that ousted Super Bowl favorite QB’s despite their homefield advantage. Many would agree that with a little better clock management, it would have been a 4-way sweep.

Fingertip technology at its finest.

Mr. Fixit got me an Apple Watch for Christmas. What a great gift. His intention was to fuel one of my obsessions. Step tracking. The 10,000 steps-a-day challenge has had my attention for a while now. The problem was that I kept putting down my phone, so I wasn’t getting credit for my steps. We would compare our numbers at the end of the day, and he was always way ahead of me. Lawn mowing and snow blowing will do that for a guy.
